Bottom line. Your competition will soon dominate you if you refuse to blog. Die is a strong word but your competitor will be eating your lunch to be nice. The reasons are overwhelming and ignoring them are no longer an option. Any full internet marketing service worth their salt is advising their clients and practicing what they preach by blogging themselves.
Your visitors Want Valuable Content
You may not be reading blogs yet but who cares if you are. By next year you will be in the 1/3 of the population that is NOT reading blogs. Ah yea, check these little stats out. So yes by 2012, 2/3's of you will be reading blogs so it's your potential customers that matter and the majority of them are checking out blogs. They want to get a sense of who your company is and see if they can trust you. You just can't help getting across who you are and about your company any better than a blog.
Google Wants Valuable Content
Ok, if you don't care what your customers want then do care about what Google wants as they are one of the top companies in the world. Their own webmaster tools will tell you that fresh new content is what they are after. You will be writing blogs to target keywords, adding indexed pages and images, all of which make you more crawlable and that means more likelihood of being found.
More Ways to Build a Relationship
Ok don't care about your customers or Google (being facetious here), then do care about building rapport online and getting leads Each blog will have at least one call to action of something valuable to give so that you will get something valuable to get. Ie an email address. Yes getting that gives you the ability to stay in touch if you do it in a value add way.
Value add meaning a best demonstrated practiceLike lead nurturing campaign that will walk your client down the path of getting to know your company in a clear and useful way. Not a barrage of useless in your face emails that most of us see daily.
