Welcome everybody to our final installment in our keyword research for hubspotters video series. I know what you’re thinking, when the heck are they going to talk about Hubspot. Well today’s the day. We’re going to show you how to take your master list and dump it into hubspot and then we’re going to show you how to analyze and choose the low hanging fruit keywords to target with your content.
Let’s jump in. Log into your hubspot account and click on the reports dropdown box and then click keywords and this will open up Hubpsots keyword tool. The first thing we want to do is dump all of your keywords into the tool and separate them into different campaigns based on where they fit into the buyers journey. So click on add keywords. Then we want to bring up our master keyword list and insert a table so that we can sort the list, So highlight all the data and click on the insert tab to add a table. And we’re going to sort using the first column, and this is going to bring all of the BOFU keyword to the top so we’ll copy those keywords and then paste them into the keyword tool and name the campaign BOFU. Then we want to do the same thing with the MOFU and TOFU keywords as well.
Then go back to the main keyword tool. We want to export our keywords into a spreadsheet so click on the “export these keywords” link in the right side bar here. We’re going to wait to get that spreadsheet so I’m going to pause the video and I’ll be back in a bit.
So after looking at the content marketing keywords I realized it wasn’t the greatest example, so I chose a client’s account so you could get a better idea of what the analysis would look like.
So you’re the keyword export from hubspot. We won’t be using columns F, H, I or J, so we can delete those. Then we want to turn the data into a table to make it easier to analyze. So highlight all the data and click the insert tab then click table, and be sure to check “My table has headers” then click ok.
Now for the analysis. The idea is that we want to find keywords that get a decent amount of search volume, are easier to rank for, or we’re already have a decent Google ranking.
So let’s start by finding keywords with decent search volume. So I’ll click on the drop down on the Monthly Searches Column and I want to keep everything that gets 100 visits or more each month. And I’m going to highlight the monthly searches for all these keywords in green to keep track of them.
Now I want to do the same thing with difficulty level. Let’s keep everything with a difficulty of 40 or below. And highlight
those with green also.
Next we do the same with the Rank column and keep all keywords that rank 25 or below and mark those green too.
Now we want to find the keywords with the most green. These keywords provide the best opportunity and are keywords we should target with our content. If you can spot any trends maybe you could create a content series around those keywords.
Also when doing this analysis take a look at the keywords with high traffic numbers that rank on the second page of google, positions 11 – 20. Make note of the pages that are ranking for that keyword. A quick and easy way to help those pages move up would be to point some internal links from some of your other relevant pages to the ranking page or when you create content targeting that keyword make sure you link from the new content to the ranking page.
Also you’re target keywords don’t have to fit all 3 characteristics, you can remove anyone of these filters to look at the data in different ways and find other keyword opportunities.
So we just showed you how to analyze your keyword list using the hubspot keyword tool. I hope you got a lot out of it, and I hope you enjoyed the keyword research for hubspotters video series. Thanks for joining us and we’ll see you soon.
