We all are wanting the quick fix. The quick pill, the quick pick me up, the quick bring me down, the quick pain relief, the quick weight loss. We joke around here how the P90X was a 90 day program to get those 6 pack abs. Then there was the way to get that beautiful body in 60 days, then 30, then 2 weeks. It is coming when the 1 day course is about to hit. Get everything you ever desired in only one day. Just 4 payment of $19.99 and you are golden. Well not exactly.
This happened in the SEO space too. There are the smart SEO companies that had figured out the quick way to game the system and it worked for a while, until Mr. and Mrs. Panda and Penguin occurred. These two updates that Google came out with that changed their algorithm and also changed the way search rankings appeared. We have heard of countless companies that leaned the hard way that paying for someone to handle their SEO may of worked great for the short term but no longer is it paying the bills. Many companies that were playing that game spend the money in vein and are now trying to figure out how to get those rankings back.
In a nutshell, Google realized that if we don't get useful information based on what we are searching for, eventually we will go somewhere else to search and there lies the rub. Google still makes their billions on those tiny little ads at the top and right side of the search results page. It's really as simple is that if we stop coming to Google and stop clicking on their ads, Google is toast in a hurry. Panda and Penguin figured out the "SEO gamers" so their sites were no longer as relevant and the businesses that utilized their techniques lost most of their traffic. It literally put some businesses out of business overnight.
Online Content Never Stopped Working. The businesses that continued to put up great content and do so in a way that provides a user friendly experience, continued to get increasing organic traffic they desired. Here is an example of a health and fitness company that has had consistent content creation and took place during Google's Panda and Penguin updates. The business believed that consistent content that focused on the type of searches being done to find his business would result in more authority and apparently the search engines agreed.
